Most dentists prefer to save natural teeth when they can. Unless it’s not possible. If your tooth is severely damaged, your tooth may need to be pulled out.  During this procedure, which is also called extraction, your dentist will carefully remove your tooth and its roots from your bone. This will also remove and clean out any infection.

If your tooth needs to be extracted, your dentist might walk you through your options to replace the resulting gap. Once your bone is healed, the extraction site will be filled with a dental bridge or dental implant. They can also make you a temporary removable tooth, a flipper, for you to wear until your bridge or the implant gets ready.
